Staying On-Brand Online

The Audit Exercise

Start by auditing your current online presence. Screenshot your profile photos, bio descriptions, and recent posts across Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Bandcamp, and your website. Print them out or gather them in a document. Do they feel cohesive? Do they communicate the same message about who you are? Look for visual inconsistencies (different color treatments, conflicting aesthetics) and message misalignment (tone variations, contradictory narratives).

Profile Consistency

Your profile photos and bios are the entry point to your brand. Use the same or similar professional photos across platforms. Write bios that reflect your current brand voice—keep them consistent but platform-appropriate. If you're "introspective and atmospheric," that should be evident in your photo choice, bio language, and pinned content everywhere. Update all profiles when you update one; don't let old information linger.

Content Filter Questions

Before posting, ask: Does this feel like me? Would my fans expect this from my brand? Does it look good next to my other recent posts? Create a mental checklist: Is the visual style consistent? Does the message align with my values? Is the tone of voice recognizable? Not everything needs to be perfect, but it should all feel intentional and connected.

Template Systems

Create simple templates for yourself:

  • Photo filter or editing preset (so your feed has visual coherence)
  • Bio template with your key info and current focus
  • Caption tone guide (formal, casual, poetic, humorous—pick your voice)
  • Announcement formats for new releases, shows, and updates

Templates don't mean boring repetition; they mean consistent starting points. They save time and ensure your brand voice remains recognizable across every post and platform.
