Dolby Atmos is a way to create and deliver immersive music by placing sounds in three-dimensional space. For musicians, the important point is that Atmos is both a creative format and a delivery workflow. You do not simply press an “Atmos” button on a finished stereo master. Apple’s artist guidance says that Dolby Atmos tracks for Apple Music must be created from multitracks or stems derived from multitracks. What “object-based” means
A conventional stereo mix is organized around two playback channels: left and right. A surround mix may add more fixed channels, such as center, rear, or height channels. In an object-based system, some sounds are treated as audio objects with associated instructions about their position and movement. Those instructions are commonly called positional metadata.
An object might be a vocal, a percussion hit, a guitar texture, or an effect. The audio itself is one part of the object. The metadata is another: it tells the system where that sound is intended to be located in the three-dimensional sound field and, where applicable, how it should move. The listener does not receive a completely different song for every possible room. A renderer converts the audio and its metadata into a playback configuration. How Atmos reaches headphones
You do not need overhead speakers to hear an Atmos mix in a spatial way. The renderer presents the left and right signals in a way designed to suggest that sounds are coming from different locations around the listener.

That statement needs careful reading. “Up to 10% greater share” is Apple’s stated maximum differential in the cited guidance. It is not a guaranteed 10% increase to an artist’s net payment, and it is not a universal industry royalty rate. Contractual, territorial, distributor, label, and partner practices may affect how money reaches a particular rights holder. The stream definition is also platform-specific. Apple’s explanation should not be automatically applied to another digital service, another contract, or another territory.
